Why does the red heifer need to be three years old? I will tell you the most important reason why. Jesus. The red heifer death was a type and shadow of the crucifixion of Jesus. Jesus ministry was just over 3 years and in my opinion, this is the main reason why the red heifer needs to be atleast 3. Jews won’t understand that though because well, it’s obvious. They hate Jesus. At 3 years old the heifer becomes a cow and is no longer a calf.
Scripture even makes mention of a three year old heifer. Isaiah 15:5 and Jeremiah 48:34 alludes to the age. The Talmud, their own writings, even tells us the age. “Mishnah specifies that the cow be at least three or four years old; younger than three is termed “calf” (Heb. eglah) rather than “cow” (Par. 1:1). Furthermore, R. Meir asserts that theoretically the animal may be aged.” (Encyclopedia Judaica) This is the main reason why the Temple Institute is qouted twice on their page saying the age is “3 to 4 years old”.
So why do these rabbis now claim the Temple Institute misquoted or misspoke originally and the age for the heifer to be sacrificed is now 2 years old? Because they are pushing for their god to join them. Hosea said it best I think, “for Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer:” (4:16). Luckily for them, their is a way out of this. Turn to the real Messiah Jesus who bought you for a price. “Now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.” (4:16)
One last interesting piece of info I came across when reading this in the Greek LXX. The word heifer in Greek is ‘damalis’. It comes from the word ‘damazo’ which means to tame, in the sense to “RESTRAIN’. I hope you’re seeing the big picture here.
